At its MAX London creativity conference, Adobe introduced an updated version of Firefly, a comprehensive platform designed to streamline AI-assisted content creation. The Firefly app now serves as a centralized hub for generating images, videos, audio, and vectors, offering creators a unified workspace to ideate, produce, and refine their projects. By integrating Adobe’s commercially safe Firefly models with select partner models, including those from Google Cloud and OpenAI, Firefly provides users with a range of creative options while maintaining a focus on professional usability.

New Firefly Models for Enhanced Creative Output

Adobe unveiled two new image generation models: Firefly Image Model 4 and Firefly Image Model 4 Ultra. Image Model 4 is designed for producing lifelike images with improved control over structure, style, and camera angles. It supports outputs up to 2K resolution, enabling creators to crop, recompose, or print images without quality loss. Image Model 4 Ultra, tailored for complex scenes, delivers detailed and realistic results for projects requiring high precision.

The Firefly Video Model, now generally available, allows users to create 1080p video clips from text prompts or images. It offers intuitive controls for adjusting camera settings and crafting atmospheric or motion design elements. Brands such as PepsiCo/Gatorade and agencies like dentsu have adopted this model for its production-ready capabilities. Additionally, the Firefly Vector Model supports a new Text-to-Vector feature, enabling designers to generate editable vector artwork, logos, and patterns using simple text prompts.

Adobe reports that its Firefly models have been used to create over 22 billion assets worldwide, reflecting their widespread adoption among creative professionals.

Partner Models Expand Creative Flexibility

Firefly now incorporates partner models to offer diverse aesthetic styles. Currently, users can access OpenAI’s image generation capabilities and Google’s Imagen 3 and Veo 2 models, with additional models from partners like fal.ai, Ideogram, Luma, Pika, and Runway expected in the coming months. Creators can switch between models seamlessly, with clear indicators of which model is in use. Content Credentials are automatically applied to AI-generated outputs, ensuring transparency about their origin, whether from Adobe’s Firefly models or partner models.

Kevin Weil, chief product officer at OpenAI, noted, “We’re pleased to work with Adobe to bring OpenAI’s image generation capabilities to its creators, opening up more ways to share ideas visually.”

Firefly Boards: A New Tool for Collaboration

A standout addition is Firefly Boards, now in public beta. This feature provides an AI-driven workspace for moodboarding, storyboarding, and brainstorming. Creators can explore hundreds of variations, refine concepts, and collaborate with teams before moving into production. Previously previewed as Project Concept, Firefly Boards aims to streamline the ideation process, helping teams align on creative directions efficiently.

Integration with Adobe’s Creative Suite

Firefly is deeply integrated with Adobe’s Creative Cloud applications, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Express. This allows creators to leverage AI tools throughout the content creation process, from generating initial concepts to final production. Features like Structure and Style Reference enable users to guide outputs using reference images, while capabilities such as precise camera angle control and multilingual audio translation enhance creative flexibility.

Firefly Services for Business Workflows

For enterprises, Adobe introduced Firefly Services, a suite of generative AI and creative APIs designed to accelerate content production. These APIs help businesses automate repetitive tasks, such as resizing assets for marketing channels. New APIs include the Photoshop API for scalable image editing and Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video APIs for creating live-action clips. Leading companies like Accenture and The Estée Lauder Companies are using Firefly Services to streamline campaigns and deliver tailored content.

Adobe’s Commitment to Responsible AI

Adobe emphasizes a creator-centric approach to AI, viewing it as a tool to enhance, not replace, human creativity. The company’s Firefly models are designed to be commercially safe, prioritizing respect for creators’ rights. Content Credentials ensure transparency, and enterprise customers can choose whether to enable partner models. For more details on Adobe’s AI approach, visit Adobe’s AI overview.
