Beijing Is Set to Host Historic Half-Marathon Featuring Humans and Humanoid Robots.

The Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area is set to host the world's first-ever half-marathon where humans and humanoid robots will compete side by side. Scheduled to take place on April 13, 2025 at the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, commonly known as E-Town, this innovative race promises to be a spectacle like no other, bringing together over 12,000 human runners and numerous teams of humanoid robots.


This event coincides with a period of rapid growth in humanoid robotics, as thousands of organizations now venture into developing advanced humanoid robots with diverse capabilities. The race serves as a platform to showcase these technological advancements.


What you need to know about the event

While this event is open to all humanoid Robotics organization, there are certain requirements potential participants needs to know:

  1. Robot Specifications: Participating robots must be humanoid in design and bipedal, meaning Robotics that make use of wheels will not be allowed to participate. Both remote-controlled and fully autonomous robots are eligible to participate.
  2. Race Format: The humanoid robots will run in a separate lane from the human participants. This ensures a safe and fair competition for both participating human and robots.
  3. Time Limit: Robots have a cutoff time of approximately three and a half hours to complete the half-marathon course.
  4. Awards and Recognition: The top three finishers, whether human or robot, will receive prizes. Additionally, robots can earn awards in three distinct categories: Race completion, Best endurance, and Most popular robot.
  5. Relay Option: Robot teams have the flexibility to change batteries or swap robots during the race using a relay system. However, each swap will incur a ten-minute penalty.
  6. Registration: Registration for the event opens on March 11 and is open to companies, research institutions, and robot clubs.


This event aims not only to showcase advancements in humanoid robotics but also to foster public understanding and discussion about the capabilities of robots, potentially accelerating industry development.
