Boston Dynamics has announced the commercial launch of its Atlas humanoid robot, transitioning it from a research platform to an enterprise product designed for industrial automation. The company also announced that Atlas won the "best of" CES 2026 award.

The company states this product version of Atlas is engineered for manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability for use in warehouses and factories. Designed to perform tasks like part sequencing and machine tending, the robot is built to work alongside human teams without requiring extensive facility retrofitting.

Key Partnerships and Industrial Design

A central part of the rollout is Boston Dynamics' partnership with Hyundai Motor Group, which is both an investor and the first announced customer. Hyundai plans to build a new robotics factory capable of producing thousands of robots annually and has a fleet scheduled for deployment in 2026.

The robot’s design leverages the company's experience deploying over 2000 Spot and Stretch robots globally.

Key features highlighted for industrial environments include:

· A 1.9-meter tall frame with a 2.3-meter reach, capable of repeated 30 kg lifts.

· An onboard safety system for detecting people, allowing for fenceless operation.

· A four-hour battery with autonomous swap capability for continuous operation.

· Field-replaceable limbs and an IP67 rating for durability and ease of maintenance.

Software, AI, and Commercial Support

Atlas will be managed through Boston Dynamics' Orbit™ software platform, which integrates with existing manufacturing and warehouse systems. The company notes a collaboration with DeepMind to enhance the robot's AI for faster task learning.

Emphasizing a focus on practical return on investment, Boston Dynamics states it is now beginning to work with select customers to develop specific material handling solutions with the newly launched Atlas platform.
