Figure 03: A Step Forward in Humanoid Robotics

A few years ago, I watched a humanoid robot video and thought it was just a wild idea that might never leave the realm of imagination. Today, the story is different. With new developments in humanoid robots worldwide, Figure’s third-generation robot, Figure 03, is advancing what’s possible. Designed for homes, commercial spaces, and large-scale production, Figure 03 brings practical robotics closer to reality.
Built for Helix
Figure 03 is designed around Helix, Figure’s vision-language-action system, which enables reasoning and adaptability. The robot features an updated sensory suite and hand system. Its vision system offers a doubled frame rate, reduced latency, and a 60% wider field of view per camera, all in a smaller design. With a larger depth of field, Figure 03 can navigate complex spaces like homes with accuracy.
Each hand includes a palm camera for close-range visual feedback, ensuring precise grasps in tight spaces, like reaching into a cabinet. The hands have softer, more adaptive fingertips for better contact with various objects. Figure developed its own tactile sensors, which detect forces as light as three grams—enough to sense a paperclip’s weight. This allows Figure 03 to handle fragile or irregular items with care, suiting both home and commercial tasks.
Designed for the Home
Figure 03 is built to work safely in homes. It uses multi-density foam to avoid pinch points and soft textiles instead of hard surfaces. At 9% lighter and more compact than Figure 02, it moves easily through household spaces. Its battery includes multiple safety layers and meets the UN38.3 standard for reliability.
For usability, the robot’s soft goods are washable and replaceable without tools, and it can be customized with durable clothing. An improved audio system, with a speaker four times more powerful than Figure 02’s and a repositioned microphone, supports clearer voice interactions. Wireless inductive charging through coils in its feet allows Figure 03 to dock and recharge at 2 kW, fitting seamlessly into daily routines.
Built for Scale
Unlike earlier humanoid robots designed as costly prototypes, Figure 03 is made for high-volume manufacturing. Figure redesigned its processes, built a new supply chain, and created BotQ, its manufacturing facility. By using methods like die-casting and injection molding, Figure reduced production costs while maintaining quality. BotQ can produce up to 12,000 robots per year, with plans to reach 100,000 units in four years, meeting growing demand efficiently.
Ready for the World
Figure 03’s home-focused design also supports commercial use. Its actuators operate at double the speed with improved torque, enabling faster tasks like picking and placing items. The upgraded sensory suite and tactile hands handle objects from small sheet metal to deformable poly bags with precision. Wireless charging and 10 Gbps mmWave data offload support near-continuous operation and data uploads for fleet learning. Commercial users can customize Figure 03 with uniforms and side screens for easy identification in large fleets.
A Practical Future
Figure 03 is a platform for making robotics useful in everyday life. By combining advanced perception, home-safe design, and scalable manufacturing, Figure is creating a robot that can work in homes and businesses alike. What once seemed like a distant dream is now taking shape, ready to change how we live and work.
