Google Introduces No-Code Platform to Build AI Assistants Within Workspace
Translate this article
Google is expanding the automation capabilities within its productivity suite with the launch of Google Workspace Studio. The new platform, now rolling out to business and education customers, is designed to let users create customized AI assistants, or "agents," to handle complex workflows across Gmail, Drive, Docs, and third-party applications—all without writing code.
This move aims to shift workplace automation beyond simple, rule-based tasks toward systems that can reason with information and adapt to context.
Key Capabilities of Workspace Studio
The platform centers on making the creation and use of these AI agents accessible and deeply integrated with a user's existing work environment.
· Natural Language Creation: Users can describe a task in plain language—such as "every Friday, ping me to update my project tracker"—and Gemini will build the corresponding agent.
· Context-Aware Operation: Agents can access and reason across a user's content in Workspace apps. For example, an agent could draft a weekly project update by pulling relevant information from recent emails, documents, and calendar events.
· Cross-Platform Automation: Agents can be connected to popular third-party services like Asana, Jira, Mailchimp, and Salesforce, enabling automated workflows that span multiple tools.
· Sharing and Templates: Agents can be shared across teams like a Google Doc, and a library of templates is provided for common use cases like summarizing unread emails or generating pre-meeting briefs.
Designed for Administrators and End Users
The rollout includes considerations for both management and everyday use:
· For Admins: Workspace Studio is a core service with controls to enable or disable it at the organizational level. Granular settings for security, external sharing, and data flow are being introduced.
· For End Users: Once available, users can access the platform at studio.workspace.google.com to begin building agents.
Availability
The feature is included for Google Workspace customers across Business, Enterprise, and Education editions. It is currently launching for Rapid Release domains, with Scheduled Release domains gaining access in early January 2026.
By integrating a no-code agent builder directly into the Workspace environment, Google is providing organizations with a tool to create personalized AI assistants that leverage their unique data and processes, potentially automating a new tier of complex, knowledge-based work.
