Moonvalley has officially made its AI-powered Marey video system available to the general public, following an initial testing phase involving filmmakers, agencies, and other creative professionals.

The Marey system is described by Moonvalley as “commercially safe,” a reference to its use of fully licensed images and intellectual property for training. This approach contrasts with the practices of some AI firms that have relied on scraping content from the internet without explicit permission—a practice that has prompted legal action. In June, Disney and NBCUniversal filed lawsuits against Midjourney for allegedly using their content without authorization.

Designed to support video generation and visual effects workflows, Marey aims to assist creatives in executing complex sequences more efficiently. Ed Ulbrich, a veteran of the visual effects industry with credits including Titanic and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, recently joined Moonvalley in a senior role. He cited Marey’s licensing model and its production-ready tools as key reasons for his involvement.

Moonvalley also owns Asteria Film Co., an AI studio previously co-founded by Bryn Mooser. The acquisition followed Asteria’s collaboration with a venture co-led by actress and producer Natasha Lyonne.

By emphasizing legal compliance in its training pipeline, Moonvalley positions Marey as a system developed with rights management in mind—a consideration of increasing importance in the evolving generative AI landscape.
