In a significant step forward for AI-driven productivity, NotebookLM has rolled out an exciting upgrade, introducing public sharing for its notebook platform. This feature allows users to share notebooks with anyone via a simple link, amplifying collaboration and discovery.

How to Share a Notebook Publicly

Follow these steps to make your notebook accessible to others:

  1. Create or Open a Notebook: Start by creating a new notebook or opening an existing one in NotebookLM.
  2. Access the Share Option: Click the “Share” button located in the top-right corner of your notebook.
  3. Set Access Level: Choose “Anyone with a link” to enable public access.
  4. Share the Link: Copy the generated link and share it with anyone who has a Google account to allow them to view your notebook.

Note for Owners: If you have a paid subscription, you can view usage analytics for your public notebook in the analytics tab. Learn more about Usage Analytics.

Important: Public sharing is only available for consumer accounts. This feature is currently disabled for Workspace Enterprise or Education accounts. Only notebook owners and editors can generate and manage public share links.

Tip: A globe icon next to the Share button indicates your notebook is public. If you delete or make the notebook private, previously shared links will no longer work.

How to Visit Public Notebooks

Once you receive a public notebook link:

  1. Open the Link: Click the URL to view the notebook. It will appear on your NotebookLM homepage.
  2. Interact with the Notebook: Ask questions, generate content like audio overviews, FAQs, or briefing documents, and view studio artifacts created by owners or editors.
  3. Remove if Needed: To remove a public notebook from your homepage, select “Remove notebook” from the three dots menu.

How to Disable Public Sharing

As an owner or editor, you can revoke public access at any time:

  1. Open the Notebook: Access your publicly shared notebook.
  2. Go to Share Settings: Click the “Share” button in the top-right corner.
  3. Restrict Access: Set Notebook Access back to “Restricted.”
  4. Impact: New visitors can no longer access the notebook via previously shared links, and it will disappear from the shared notebooks page of previous visitors.
