Russia unveiled what was supposed to be its pride in artificial intelligence. Instead, we all got a surprise reminder that even the smartest machines still have to respect gravity. A humanoid robot named AIDOL made its grand debut in Moscow earlier . And let us just say the introduction did not go exactly as planned.

Backed by the theme song from “Rocky,” AIDOL walked out alongside two handlers. The room was full of journalists waiting to see what they were told was “Russia’s first anthropomorphic robot with artificial intelligence.” That was the moment everyone had been waiting for. But as the robot tried to wave its right hand, everything quickly took a different direction. It wobbled. It struggled. And then it fell. Face-first. Right on the stage.

Well, that was not quite the knockout performance they hoped for. Developers say this is only a minor issue. A simple movement problem. AIDOL is still learning. Honestly, who cannot relate? We all know what it is like to enter a room feeling powerful, only to suddenly find ourselves on the floor. But of course, the internet wasted absolutely no time. One person commented: “Artificial intelligence. Natural clumsiness.” Another added: “Even robots are tired of this year.”

Here is the bigger picture. We tend to expect perfection from machines. But maybe these stumbles are a normal part of their journey to walk among us. AIDOL did not conquer the stage. But it certainly conquered social media. The memes are already out of control. And at least it did not blame the Wi-Fi or a software update.

We will keep watching this story as AIDOL’s team works to get it back on its feet. And hopefully next time, the only thing falling will be people’s jaws.
