OpenAI and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) have announced a partnership to offer ChatGPT Enterprise to the U.S. federal executive branch workforce for $1 per agency for one year. This initiative aims to help federal employees work more efficiently on administrative tasks, allowing them to focus on serving the public.

The partnership supports a federal goal to integrate AI tools into government operations. Agencies can access OpenAI’s advanced models through ChatGPT Enterprise, with an additional 60-day period of unlimited access to features like Deep Research and Advanced Voice Mode.

Pilot programs show AI’s potential in government settings. Pennsylvania employees saved about 95 minutes daily on routine tasks using ChatGPT. In North Carolina, 85% of participants in a 12-week pilot with the Department of State Treasurer reported a positive experience. These tools can assist with tasks like budget management and data analysis.

The partnership includes:

  1. Access to ChatGPT Enterprise: Agencies pay $1 for one year of access to OpenAI’s models, with 60 days of unlimited feature use.
  2. Training Support: OpenAI provides training through the OpenAI Academy, with additional support from partners like Slalom and Boston Consulting Group.
  3. Data Security: ChatGPT Enterprise does not use business data to train models, and the GSA has issued an Authority to Use (ATU) to ensure compliance.
