The team behind ChatGPT has announced a new, separate area within its platform focused specifically on health and wellness. Called "ChatGPT Health," this space is designed to help users organize and make sense of their personal health information by bringing it together securely in one place.

A Central Hub for Scattered Information

The initiative addresses a common modern problem:health data is often fragmented across patient portals, wellness apps, wearable devices, and paper records. ChatGPT Health aims to be a centralized tool where users can securely connect various sources, such as medical records or apps like Apple Health and MyFitnessPal. The idea is to ground conversations in a user's specific data, which could help with understanding lab results, preparing for doctor appointments, or discussing nutrition and exercise routines.

The company is clear that this tool is intended to support, not replace, professional medical care. It is not designed for diagnosis or treatment but rather to help users manage everyday questions and feel more informed for conversations with their clinicians.

Enhanced Privacy for Sensitive Data

Recognizing the sensitivity of health information,ChatGPT Health is built as a compartmentalized space within the larger platform. Conversations and files within Health are stored separately and feature additional security measures, including purpose-built encryption. The company states that conversations within Health are not used to train its underlying AI models. Users will also have clear controls to view or delete their data at any time.

Developed with Medical Professionals

The development of ChatGPT Health involved collaboration with over 260 physicians from around the world. These clinicians provided extensive feedback on how the tool responds, focusing on safety, clarity, and knowing when to encourage users to seek professional follow-up. This input helped shape an evaluation framework to assess the tool's responses against clinical standards for usefulness and safety.

Availability and Access

ChatGPT Health is currently rolling out via a waitlist.Initial access is being offered to a limited group of users outside of the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The ability to connect medical records, at launch, is available only in the United States.

For those interested in exploring this dedicated health experience, you can join the waitlist on the ChatGPT website. The company plans to expand access to all users on web and iOS in the coming weeks.
