Perplexity started with Search, evolved with Deep Research, and now introduces Labs, a mode designed for people who want to go beyond insights and start creating.

Labs brings together tools like web browsing, code execution, data formatting, and chart generation in a single session. It doesn’t replace manual work or decision-making, but it does give you a strong head start by producing structured drafts and visual outputs you can work with.

From planning a content calendar to prototyping a basic web app or analyzing sales data, Labs helps reduce the number of tools you have to juggle just to move an idea forward.

What You Can Build with Labs

Labs supports a range of real-world use cases:

1. Drafting reports, summaries, or strategic plans based on current research
2. Creating basic spreadsheets, charts, or financial breakdowns
3. Writing and executing small code snippets for data manipulation or file generation
4. Prototyping interactive elements like dashboards or visualizations — all inside your project tab

All generated content including charts, images, CSVs, and code files is organized in the Assets tab for easy access. Interactive elements are previewed in the App tab, providing a lightweight way to explore dashboards or mockups without needing external tools.

When to Use Labs vs. Research

Perplexity is now simplifying its toolset: what was previously called “Deep Research” is now simply Research still your go-to for in-depth, cited answers, usually within 3–4 minutes.

Labs, on the other hand, is designed for longer, more complex tasks. A session typically runs for 10+ minutes, combining multiple capabilities to help you develop working drafts and visual materials for your projects. It’s ideal when you need more than just answers when you’re trying to build something.

How to Get Started

Labs is available via the mode selector on perplexity.ai (web and mobile), with desktop support on the way. Whether you're working on a project for work or a personal side goal, Labs can help reduce the friction between idea and execution.
